These second earlies appear in June and take over from the Home Guard and Premier for the New Season potatoes. They are also a white potato, but with a slightly thicker skin finish than the first earlies. They are floury and can be used for boiling, steaming, roasting and chipping.
Storage: Store in cool, dry place, away from sunlight.
When boiling potatoes, use the minimum amount of water to just cover the potatoes. This prevents the water from extracting nutrients from the potatoes during the cooking process.
One delicious way to prepare Queens is to place a layer of similar-sized smallish Queens in a microwaveable dish, add 2 tablespoons of water, cover with cling film or a suitable lid and microwave for 10 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
