Philip J Meade operated as a sole trader in the potato , Fruit & Vegetables business from 1977 and moved to the Braystown site in 1980.

Meade Potato Co. Ltd was set up in 1982 at this site and currently employs over 60 directly and 150 more indirectly involved in transport, electrical, maintenance and growers of Potato & Veg producing and supplying Meade Potato Company.

While our principal business is in the potato sector we have developed a Fruit and Vegetables division which now accounts for 50% of Meade Potato Company’s total business.

We have extensive experience in supplying to large multiple-chain supermarkets and currently supply several well known Irish and European chains.

We handle approximately 20,000 tons of potatoes per year, The majority of which are committed to our multiple-chain supermarket customers, and a small percentage to the open market.

We supply over 50 lines to our main customers over the course of any week concentrating on high volume, low margin sales.

With regard to fruit and vegetables, our business has being growing steadily over the last few years. Our main lines are green cabbage, carrots, brussel sprouts, peppers, cauliflower and onions whereas our main lines on the fruit are satsumas, oranges ,pears, apples, tomatoes (yes, they are classified as fruit), grapes, melons and plums.
